A refresher on current Canada cannabis law

One of the most commonly asked questions we get, is surrounding dispensaries. Our answer is always the same, “dispensaries are illegal in Canada”. Since these questions keep popping up, here’s a refresher on current cannabis laws in Canada:

  • Dispensaries and compassion clubs are illegal in Canada. Medical or recreational cannabis cannot be purchased legally through any such business.
  • Recreational cannabis is still illegal in Canada, but legalization is set for July 1, 2018.
  • Medical cannabis prescriptions must be obtained through a licensed physician.
  • Medical cannabis must be obtained through one of the 52 Licensed Producers in Canada.
