420 Recipes: Oils, Butters and Basics

Each week we show you how to make edibles from your medical marijuana, but this week we are taking it down to the basics to share the fundamental recipes needed to cook with cannabis.

CANNABIS COCONUT OIL 

Ingredients: 

  • 2 cups coconut oil
  • 1 ounce medical marijuana

Instructions: 

  1. Add one cup of water and 2 cups of coconut oil into a stock pot or sauce pan and let it melt and begin to simmer on low.
  2. As oil begins to melt, add in your ground cannabis product.
  3. Maintain low heat and let the mixture simmer for 2-3 hours, stirring occasionally. Make sure the mixture never comes to a full boil.

CANNABIS ALMOND MILK 

Ingredients:

  • ¼ cup raw almonds
  • 2 cup water
  • Cannabis, ground (1 g recommended)

Instructions: 

  • Blend the almonds and water in a food processor until it resembles milk.
  • Strain the milk using a strainer or cheesecloth.
  • Add the strained milk to a saucepan and bring to a boil.
  • Add the ground cannabis and reduce heat; simmer for 45 minutes, stirring frequently.
  • Remove from heat and drink straight or use as a milk replacement in recipes.

CANNABUTTER

Ingredients

  • 1 lb unsalted butter
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 ounce of ground cannabis flower or 1 1/2 ounces of high-quality cannabis trim

Instructions

  1. Add one cup of water and 1 lb of butter into a stock pot or sauce pan and let it melt and begin to simmer on low.
  2. As butter begins to melt, add in your ground cannabis product.
  3. Maintain low heat and let the mixture simmer for 2-3 hours, stirring occasionally. Make sure the mixture never comes to a full boil.
