Medical Marijuana and Osteoporosis

In another edition of Medical Monday, we’re looking at how medical marijuana can help with osteoporosis.

What is osteoporosis?
This is a medical condition in which the bones become brittle and fragile from loss of tissue. This can result from hormonal changes, deficiency of calcium or vitamin D.

How can medical marijuana help?
Some early research has shown cannabis to help protect against osteoporosis but activating the cannabinoid receptor, CB1. This is key to osteoporosis development, and has been shown to have similar benefits for the same reasons with arthritis patients. Marijuana also helps prevent fat accumulation around the bones, and helps ease pain associated.
