How to Qualify for Medical Marijuana in Calgary

Helping You Navigate Calgary’s Medical Marijuana Laws

Medical marijuana is an effective treatment for all kinds of medical conditions, ranging from chronic pain and seizures to insomnia, anxiety, and depression. There is still some debate as to just how effective cannabis is a medicine, but the truth of the matter is that scientists and doctors have compiled dozens of medical conditions that may be helped with cannabis.

Am I Eligible for Medical Marijuana in Calgary?

The 420 Clinic has compiled an exhaustive list of medical conditions that may be treated by cannabis. The site lists some very common conditions such as obesity, alcoholism, impotence, constipation, and hypertension.

But in general, the most common uses of medical marijuana are for the following conditions:

  • Chronic pain. This is probably the most common use of medical marijuana, as chronic pain can be caused by many possible conditions. It can be arthritis, or an old injury that hasn’t healed fully. It’s also a common symptom of such conditions as cancer.
  • Chemotherapy side effects. These include vomiting, nausea, and loss of appetite. Many cancer doctors have realized that cannabis is an effective treatment that reduces the severity of these particular side effects of chemotherapy.
  • Multiple sclerosis. This is also a medical condition which can cause pain, which medical marijuana can relieve. But another symptom, called muscle spasticity, may also be another ailment for which cannabis is suitable. This spasticity is a condition which causes some muscles to contract continuously. This causes tightness or stiffness of the muscles, and it can interfere with mobility and speech.

First…do you know of a doctor in Edmonton who will prescribe medical marijuana? I have asked 2 doctors and they both refused. (I suppose Edmonton has a way to go to catch up to Calgary!)
If not, can all be done in one day–see your physician, get the prescription, etc. … I could drive to Calgary and get it all done at once.
That would be my preference.
I currently go to the U of A Pain Clinic for arthritis, spinal stenosis, and neuropathy in my feet…I believe I would qualify.
My other predicament is that my doctor retired a few months ago so I don’t actually have a doctor now. However, I could probably get some of my records from that clinic. What all do you need?
Prescribed medications don’t work well for me. My hope is that medical marijuana will help some.
Please let me know what you can do for me.
If you want to phone me, my Cell # is 780-499-2320.
Thanks kindly,
Ann Nachai.
